What is Spinal Energetics?
Spinal Energetics is a relatively new energy healing modality gaining popularity.
Developed by a holistic chiropractor and counselor, it combines Eastern and Western wisdom to interact with your central nervous system, energy field, and spine to help you move back into alignment and allow your physical and energetic system to heal itself.
The creation of spinal energetics was influenced by the following:
- Reiki
- network spinal
- Kundalini activation process
- Alphas alignment
- Shamanism
- Inner dance
- Esoteric acupuncture
- Craniosacral therapy
- Transpersonal psychotherapy
- Trauma release
- Pranayama

What Does Spinal Energetics Do?
The goal of spinal energetics is to reduce stress, balance emotions, alleviate pain, as well as to release tension, resistance, and limiting personal narratives stored in the body to promote alignment and self-healing.
Who is Spinal Energetics For?
Anyone on a healing path.
How Does Spinal Energetics Work?
You lay on a treatment table and the practitioner uses light touch, sounds, and movement to help you move stored and stagnant energy.
What Does Spinal Energetics Feel Like?
I’m pretty attuned to my energy, so I started feeling something the moment my practitioner began working on me: tingles, flow, warmth.
You may feel these sensations or you may not. Just know that the healing’s happening.
You may also feel stored emotions surfacing. It’s totally normal to experience an emotional release.
My Experience Trying Spinal Energetics
Note: This is an honest review. I’m not affiliated with my practitioner.
Before the Session
I’d heard about it from a friend and love exploring new modalities so I was excited to give it a try.
I’d seen clips of Spinal Energetics sessions on Instagram where the client’s body gently unfurled, seemingly effortlessly and intuitively, as the practitioner used hand movements to guide the energy.
The Session
My practitioner, Jeannie Dhun, trained in L.A. with the creator, Dr. Sarah Jane, and was one of the first to bring spinal energetics to Canada (she’s based in the Greater Toronto Area).
The treatment room had the lingering scent of Palo Santo. Jeannie told me she’d energetically cleared the space.
There was a grounding mat on the table, which I so appreciated because I’d just driven through thick traffic to get there and I was feeling a little ungrounded.
At first, I experienced some performance anxiety. What if I didn’t move? What if I couldn’t attune to what Jeannie was doing? What if I did it wrong?
Jeannie explained to me that you don’t have to move, but you can if it feels right in the moment. That took the pressure off.
I laid on the table and Jeannie turned on the most inspiring, empowering playlist I’d ever heard. I didn’t expect music but it was such a beautiful addition.
The first touch reminded me of Reiki. I could feel the warmth and support of the energy flowing through her.
Jeannie then made some whooshing sounds that reminded me of a Shamanic treatment I’d had many years ago.
I felt a channel of energy moving from my left shoulder down through my leg — the feeling was similar to acupuncture.
My Reaction
At first, I felt like taking deep long breaths, filling my chest.
I then got in my head a little because I intuitively felt like my body wanted to move but it felt a little strange to suddenly start moving. I remembered that Jeannie said to take the pressure off and move if I felt called to.
So I raised into the cobra Yoga pose, then moved into child’s pose, laid back down, and felt the need to figure-eight, rock, and shake my hips.
After
By the end of the session, I sensed my energy field expand, filling up the whole room.
Jeannie told me that most of the work was done around my head because she connected with my guides and they told her that my mind needed to be settled to open the pathways to self-heal.
I’d been very much in my head for the few weeks leading up to the session so that made perfect sense.
The Results
I walked out of the office feeling deeply relaxed — similar to the feeling after you have a massage or Reiki session.
But on top of the relaxation, I felt very expansive and had a sense of freedom.
I also felt like I could sleep all day but that wore off and I was able to go back to my daily activities — but I didn’t push myself.
The Day After
The next day I felt really good — content — relaxed.
I had no idea that energetically the session was still going.
My husband had taken the kids out so I could get a few things done, and absentmindedly I began to sing — the sound felt really good…comforting…different.
I stopped in my tracks, deepened the tone and it felt even better, then I let my body make whatever sounds it wanted to.
With each release of these deep primal tones, I could feel energy moving through my body.
I sensed a spirit guide with me and the message, “You’re calling back pieces of yourself.” As if I was calling back fragments of my energy that had been lost.
It was wild!
So out loud I said, “Okay, let’s do this,” and allowed my body to move and my voice to make sounds in whatever way felt good.
When I sensed whatever I was doing was complete, I sat outside in the sunshine.
It felt like I’d just done another session.
I sent Jeannie a text about what happened and she told me that the next day you’re often integrating the work that was done. And that the work she did on me was really her facilitating my own energy work.
That was absolutely confirmed by what I experienced.
The body is so brilliant. Sometimes it just needs a nudge so that it can recalibrate itself.
Things to Note
If you’re thinking about trying Spinal Energetics …
- If you can’t find a practitioner near you, it can be done as an online (zoom) appointment. Just like distance reiki, spinal energetics uses quantum entanglement to work with your energetic system outside of the constraints of physical space.
- Take it easy that day. Don’t book an active workout, intense meeting, or activity that requires extreme focus. The energetic work triggers your body to move back into a parasympathetic state, and it’s in this state that so much integration and healing happens after the fact.
- Drink lots of water following an appointment. Water helps the movement of energy through your body.
- Wear comfortable clothing. Considering you may feel the urge to stretch and move on the table, make sure you wear something stretchy, like Yoga gear.
- Don’t overthink it. At times I found myself in my head questioning if I should move my body. If your body wants to move, it will tell you. If it doesn’t, it’s perfectly okay. The practitioners are cool with you doing whatever you need to do on the table. And that includes moaning or crying. Whatever your body needs to do to move the energy.
